Dr Johann de Wet was awarded his Master’s degree in Pathology from the University of Stellenbosch Cum Laude. His research focussed on the treatment of Lentigo Maligna of the head and neck with Staged micrographic excision. The emphasis was on improving diagnostic accuracy when assessing surgical excision margins with Immunohistochemical staining.
His research led to a change in standard protocols for Staged Excision in South Africa. His research was supervised by Prof Johann Schneider, head of the department of Anatomic Pathology at Stellenbosch University and Dr Pieter du Plessis who pioneered Staged excision in South Africa.
