Dr Pieter du Plessis is a dermatologist that performs Mohs Surgery in Pretoria, South Africa. He qualified as a medical doctor and then as a dermatologist at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. As a senior registrar he spent time in the dermatologic surgery unit in Newcastle upon Tyne in the United Kingdom, where he trained in dermatologic surgery and formalin fixed Mohs Surgery.
After a year as consultant in the academic department of dermatology he entered private practice in Pretoria with a focus on procedural dermatology.
In 2013 he travelled to Cincinnati in the United States, where he completed an ASDS ITMP Mohs Observational Fellowship with Dr Brett Coldiron, a Mohs Surgeon and Past President of the American College of Mohs Surgery as well as of the American Academy of Dermatology.
Upon his return to South Africa he established the Skinmatters Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Reconstruction Unit in Pretoria, from where he performs Mohs Surgery on approximately 1000 cases per year. The unit also offers a yearlong ASDS ITMP Recognised Mohs Fellowship with Dr du Plessis as the fellowship director.
Dr du Plessis is Chairman of the South African Society for Mohs Surgery, past President of the South African Society of Dermatologic Surgery, serves on the exco of the Dermatologic Society of South Africa, and is a recipient of the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery ITMP Outstanding Contribution Award.
Completed MBChB 1998 and received fellowship with College of Dermatology in October 2005. Now in private practice as a dermatologist at Club Surgical Center and Wilgers Hospital.
Special interests in dermatology include:
Skin cancer management using dermoscopy, mole mapping and photo dynamic therapy.
Aesthetic dermatology using toxins: fillers, sclerotherapy and lasers.
Dr Ramlachan successfully completed her fellowship in Mohs Surgery and is currently a dermatologist performing Mohs Micrographic Surgery.
Dr Ramlachan is part of the Mohs Surgery Unit at Skinmatters but has her own independent Specialist Dermatology practice in Wilgers and at the Club Surgical Center.

Born in the North West province, Dr Tshepo Mokwena graduated from the University of Pretoria for his undergraduate Medical (MBCHB) and post graduate degree (FC DERM SA). After obtaining the best Intern of the year, and the Medical Officer for the year consecutively, he completed his Specialist Dermatology training at the University of Pretoria, and continued to serve as a Specialist Dermatologist in the Tertiary and Quaternary institution for a few years.
After practising for a few years in the State and Private sector, Dr Mokwena is currently a registered fellow in Mohs Surgery in association with the American Dermatological Surgical Society, at SkinMatters, mentored by Dr Pieter Du Plessis (Fellowship Director).
Dr T.T Mokwena continues to create awareness of dermatological conditions and manages all clinical and aesthetic dermatological problems. He continues to be active in programmes directly linked to skin awareness and has been on several SABC TV and radio programmes to educate on skin-related matters.
He also contributes to scientific research and to medical journals, and actively presents to general practitioners, specialists and the general public.
Johan de Wet
Dr. Johann de Wet a registered dermatologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa, who specialises in medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology.
Dr de Wet was awarded a Fellowship from the College of Dermatologists with distinction and obtained his MMed degree in Dermatology from the University of Stellenbosch Cum Laude. He is also a graduate of the University of Cardiff in Wales and of the University of Queensland, Australia, where he obtained a Diploma in Dermatology and an MMed in Skin Cancer.
Dr De Wet also completed a fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery through the American Society of Dermatological Surgery making him one of only 7 Mohs surgeons in South Africa.
A keen clinician, academic and researcher, Dr. De Wet has published various articles in peer-reviewed journals. He regularly appears as an invited speaker at both local and international conferences. His interests include medical dermatology, dermatological surgery and skin cancer.
Dr De Wet is the recipient of accolades such as the Jansen Research Foundation medal and the Peter Gordon-Smith medal for the top dermatologist in the Fellowship examinations of the College of Dermatologists of South Africa. He is one of only a handful dermatologists in South Africa who have received both these prestigious awards. He was also awarded the Discovery Foundation Academic Research Fellowship Award for his work on melanoma skin cancer and Mohs Micrographic Surgery.
Most recently he was awarded the Stellenbosch University Rector’s medical for excellent academic achievement.
Ever perfecting his craft to benefit his patients, he is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Pathology at the University of Stellenbosch. He is also holds an academic appointment as Honorary lecturer at the Division of Dermatology at Stellenbosch University.
